Since 2017, Mike Boas has taught for the School of Film and Animation at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Mike goes on the road with his Animation Alive stop motion rigs! Stop motion animation is something kids of all ages can do with a smartphone, tablet, or webcam. Mike has presented to eager crowds at maker faires and conventions in the Rochester area. Find out more here.
Since the early 2000s, Mike has taught students of all ages at The Animation Workshop at Animatus Studio in Rochester. This includes:
- Teaching students hand drawn animation, digital ink and paint, lip sync, editing, and sound design.
- Editing and publishing student cartoons to Youtube since 2007!
- Tutoring young filmmakers whose films have gone on to play in festivals.
Past accomplishments include:
- Mentoring Rochester students in producing PSA shorts about education and social issues.
- Guiding students in producing a Frederick Douglass biographical short film for International Underground Railroad Conference.
- Working with student groups to create shorts honoring women in history for the High Falls Film Festival / 360 | 365 Film Festival.
Since 2008, Mike has been sharing his own writing and critiques through the writers group now known as the Rochester Writers Workshop. Meetings are every other week, and all those interested in screenwriting are welcome. Attendance is free!
