After writing about the Hertzfeldt appearance, I realized I should make mention of Jennifer Shiman’s visit to Rochester as well. Her movies “re-enacted by bunnies” have been amusing me for a couple years now. Plus, they were a big hit at the Ottawa Animation Festival last year.

I must admit, after reading up on all the Friday the 13th stuff, my mind was thrust into the pages of classic Fangoria issues…
With Horror on the brain, I was praying that this post titled “Night of bunnies” was really a reference to the dreadfully wonderful classic “Night of the Lepus,” of which I can honestly say I might be the only one alive to have actually seen. It was a movie about giant killer rabbits starring the legendary Janet Leigh and ‘Bones’ from Star Trek.
Alas, i will overcome my disappointment and check out these bunnies.
Well, I originally heard about Shiman’s cartoons through a horror website — and most of her shorts are horror parodies. She’s working on a Night of the Living Dead parody right now…
But Night of the Lepus is a personal favorite of mine. Slow motion shots of rabbits stampeding over HO scale models. Guys in furry bunny suits jumping out of nowhere to take out hapless victims.
The best is the scene at the drive-in where the police recruit the public to help stop the infestation: “Attention! Attention! Ladies and gentlemen, attention! There is a herd of killer rabbits headed this way and we desperately need your help!”
