One project I’m proud to be a part of is now making its way to the public. DIFFABILTY HOLLYWOOD is the latest documentary from my student Adrian Esposito. The feature’s Rochester premiere was sponsored by Move to Include, a partnership between WXXI and the Golisano Foundation, designed to promote inclusion for people with intellectual and physical disabilities.
What a great match! Diffability Hollywood takes a close look at film and television’s portrayal of people with disabilities. The term “diffability” is a reframing of disabilities, thinking of them as “different abilities.” I’ve worked with Adrian for nearly 10 years, helping with editing and many other aspects of production. This is his most accomplished movie yet.
As one attendee to the screening said, “every special ed teacher should see this film…” both for a historical perspective and to see what those with disabilities are capable of.
The next screening is the North Hollywood Cinefest, which Adrian and producer Kristina Nomeika will be attending. After that, a release for general audiences, and pricing for educational use will be available. Keep an eye on Espocinema.com for details.
